Ice Melt, Snow, and Your Hard Floors

Ice Melt, Snow, and Your Hard Floors

Winter has come and with it comes snow, ice, and slippery floors. Most facilities use ice melt and matting to make their entrances safer to navigate. However, despite matting, the snow, water, and ice melt can still find its way onto your facility’s hard floors.

Ice melt can be particularly difficult to remove from your floors. Natural soap products don’t contain the chemical ingredients to chemically bind ice melt salts in solution. Often, they will redeposit salts onto the floor during the cleaning process.

Buckeye has carefully designed its products to avoid this problem. Our Eco® Proportioning Program includes several products that effectively remove dirt and soils from floors. Eco pH Neutral Cleaner E31, Eco Floor Cleaner Fragrance-Free E32, and Eco Floor Cleaner E33 can all be diluted for use in a mop bucket or autoscrubber. They are formulated to work in winter’s tough conditions, dissolving and chemically suspending ice melt salts to keep them from re-depositing on the floor while mopping or autoscrubbing. Each product is also Green Seal certified, making them safer for the environment and the employees who use them.

E31, E32, and E33 are all part of the Eco Proportioning Program. This program has everything you need to maintain a clean facility, including cleaners, disinfectants, sanitizers, and deodorizers. Each product is packaged in a 1.25 L hermetically sealed bag and automatically diluted with an Eco proportioning system, virtually eliminating all errors that come with diluting products by hand. The Eco program and its products help you tackle difficult problems, like removing ice melt from your floors, with ease.

Some other helpful tips for cleaning away the black and white sludge on your facility’s floors include:

  1. Adjust how you mop and autoscrub floors. Begin mopping or autoscrubbing away from entrances and work towards them.
  2. Change your cleaning solution often when mopping so that it is not saturated with ice melt salts. You don’t want to mop over a previously clean area with a soiled mop.
